Why I choose Young Living company and their products:

Over 15 years ago, every time I had a massage after a recent car accident, I asked the therapist what oil line they used. 99% said Young Living. That led me on a journey to learn more about essential oils in general, and then later about Young Living specifically as I narrowed down who to go with.

I really enjoy the strength and quality of the oils. I enjoy the God-centered policy from Gary Young, as an option for those who are after bringing Him into life on a daily basis.  And I have a sister and several friends who were using YL, so they have been helpful resources and support as I grow my business.

My personal goal:

1) To convert my household cleaning products to all YL in 2016.
2) To use YL oils for ministry to those coming out of abuse and trauma – part of my own healing out of childhood sexual abuse.
3) And to eventually grow my business and help educate others in the benefits of YL oils.

Favorite Young Living Product:

Valor, Inner Child, Thieves, Lavender, White Angelica, the Infused 7 Oola Kit, and many more.

The Case for Thieves vs. Windex™

~^~By Gloria Miller

Now that the holiday season is approaching, most of us are starting to focus on the tradition of getting our homes "sparkling clean." But what kind of products to use -- or NOT to use, and why? I'd like to make the case for Thieves Household Cleaner (which, I admit, has an odd-sounding name), by contrasting it with a popular over-the-counter cleaner (with a most delightful-sounding name): Crystal Rain Windex™. (Aaahh. . . Lovely purple color, and the name makes us want to run barefoot through the dewdrops, right? Well, read on. . .)

Nobody would dream of spraying food with Windex, but they do spray various surfaces in their home with it -- including sinks and countertops -- which come in contact with food, and refrigerator door handles, which come in contact with skin.

Let's take a few seconds to find out what they (and their family and pets) will be inhaling, and what kind of chemicals will be left behind on surfaces. There's not much printed on the label, so I visited the Windex.com website for a closer look, then checked out the ingredients on Wikipedia.

Here are some of the ingredients in Crystal Rain Windex, what the maker has to say about them, and what they really are.

The Windex website lists 2-Methoxyethanol (also called Ethylene glycol monomethyl ether) and describes it as "a cleaning agent that removes dirt and soils." Just what we want, right?

2-Methoxyethanol is toxic to the bone marrow and testicles. Workers exposed to high levels are at risk for granulocytopenia (reduction in certain types of white blood cells), macrocytic anemia (abnormally large red corpuscles usually caused by B-12 deficiency), oligospermia (shortage of sperm), and azoospermia (absence of sperm). Uh-oh. . .

The Windex website lists Ethanolamine, described as "a cleaning agent that removes dirt and soils." Again, this sounds good. Ethanolamine is a toxic, flammable, corrosive, colorless, viscous liquid with an odor similar to that of ammonia. It is an iritant to the eyes, skin, and respiratory system. Overexposure causes lethargy. What!? . . . No wonder people get tired when they clean all day with Windex. Ouch! And P.U.!

Ethoxylated alcohol, another ingredient, is listed on the Windex website as "a cleaning agent that removes dirt and deposits." O - o - okaaay. . .

Ethoxylated alcohol has been controversial because of its widespread use and the toxicity to aquatic life after it's degradation. (Is this what the maker means by "green???") By the way, some ethoxylated alcohols are called PEGs, or polyethylene glycols. Ever heard of them? PEGs are a class of useful compounds of molecular weights ranging from 190 to 9000 atomic mass units that vary in texture from viscous liquids to waxy solids. The Merck Index says PEGS can be considered as being of "low toxicity." (Regarding toxicity, "no" is better than "low" and Thieves Household Cleaner has "no toxicity.")

Anyhow, PEGs are found in all kinds of over-the-counter products from garage floor cleaners, cosmetics, and eye drops, to paints, paper coatings, commercial foods and food products. Wikipedia says "PEGs are nephrotoxic (damaging to the kidneys) if applied to damaged skin. (Is that what they mean by "low toxicity?) Pesonally, I'd rather protect my kidneys than put them at risk for the sake of a shiny countertop.

Now for the mystery ingredient, Polyquart® Ampho 149, also said to be "a cleaning agent that removes dirt and soils." The name tells you it is a synthetic substance that does not exist in nature with which our bodies were not designed to easily metabolize and eliminate. Polyquart® Ampho 149 is a registered trademark of Cognis GmbH, which is the same as saying, "No way will we tell you what's in it." Hmmm. . .I wonder why. . .

No place does it say whether these chemicals in combination might be even more dangerous. The company isn't required to test them that way, so they don't -- or if they did, they aren't telling us the outcome. (Call me a worry-wart, but I'm willing to bet mixing them together doesn't make them any less toxic.)

There are a few other ingredients, including artificial colors. I didn't check them out because I believe the above would be enough to convince ANYONE to switch to Young Living's Thieves Household Cleaner. (Oh, and water, which you can get by turning on a faucet.)

But if someone still needs more convincing, consider this: Crystal Rain Windex costs about $3.00 per quart.

Thieves Household Cleaner, mixed to "Medium Degreasing" concentration, costs about thirty cents a quart. It comes highly concentrated, so you add your own water.

Thieves Household Cleaner is totally non-toxic -- so safe that a small child could drink it right out of the bottle and not be harmed. Full-strength, it will clean burned-on gunk off the bottom of an oven. To clean glass, just dilute it further with some white vinegar, which makes it even more of a bargain.

But even if someone doesn't care about paying ten times more for Windex, why would they pay a company any amount on toxins? How "clean" will their house be, with a film of toxins on every surface?

Thieves Household Cleaner is antiseptic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal (great for destroying mold and mildew in tiled surfaces!) It's even antiviral. It contains 100% pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils of Clove, Cinnamon, Lemon, Eucalyptus radiata, and Rosemary, but NO harmful chemicals. So besides everything being sanitary AND safe, your house will smell wonderful.

Breathing Thieves cleaner is pleasant and boosts your health. The makers of Windex can't claim that.I count it an added bonus when, after cleaning all day with Thieves cleaner, my hands feel better than when I started! And, oddly enough, the water I used will be dirty, but the rag or sponge is fairly clean. (Go figure!)

If you haven't already, I hope you will "make the switch" to Thieves Household Cleaner. Do it for health's sake AND for your budget. It comes in a 14.4 ounce size (YL item #3743), but if you want to save even more money, get the two quart size (YL item #4475).

Many organic practices simply make sense, regardless of what overall agricultural system is used. Far from being a quaint throwback to an earlier time, organic agriculture is proving to be a serious contender in modern farming and a more environmentally sustainable system over the long term.
Essential Oils are simple, organic options to use in the garden.
For plants infested with insects, use one of the following essential oils. Fill a mist spray bottle with 4 oz. of water, add the essential oils and mist the infested plant. Use as little as possible. Several applications, a few days apart, may be necessary:

Spearmint: ants, aphids, caterpillars, black flea beetle, gnats, lice, moths, and plant lice.
Peppermint: ants, aphids, bean beetle, cabbage root fly, caterpillars, black flee beetle, flies, lice, moths, and plant lice.
Lemongrass: black flea beetle, fleas, mosquitoes, and ticks.
Tansy: black fly, carrot fly, fleas, flies, greenfly, mosquitoes, and white fly.
Hyssop: aphids, cabbage root fly, moths, and slugs.
Thyme: bean beetle, cabbage root fly, cutworm, and ticks.
Sage: cabbage root fly, cutworm, nematodes, ticks, and white fly.
Rosemary: cabbage root fly and carrot fly.
Patchouly: gnats, snails, weevils, and woolly aphids.
Pine: slugs, snails, and wooly aphids.
Sandalwood: weevils and wooly aphids.
Purification: will not only help keep the bugs away, but when applied to a bite or sting, will neutralize the venom. Apply a drop of Purification to wasp, bee, and yellow jacket stings and mosquito bites too..

MOLD QUESTION:

I live in military housing. We lived 2 doors down for 2 years, and moved into this house in March. I think it has mold in it. It was freshly painted and looks great, but I think they just painted over mold. I do not know how to find out if there is a mold problem, but I do know that Thieves and Thieves Cleaner should help rid the house of it. I have some questions though:

1. If I only have 2 diffusers, will that be effective? If I do 2 rooms at a time and run the diffuser for 2 days and move on to the next 2 rooms, will that work? Or does it have to be done all at the same time? We have 4 bedrooms and the house is around 1400 sq feet.

2. I know that you can run the diffuser 15 minutes of each hour and have it work, but is that true when dealing with mold? Can I do it 15 minutes of each hour, or do I need to leave it on continuously?

3. If I wash the walls with Thieves Cleaner, will it kill mold and mildew under the paint?

If you can help me with any of this, I would really appreciate it. Any other suggestions and thoughts are also welcome.

Thanks,
Rebecca in NC

ANSWER:

Hi Rebecca:

Great questions!

Let me suggest that you get a copy of our new book, Nature's Mold Rx, the Non-Toxic Solution to Toxic Mold. It is available online through the E-store on our website at http://www.MoldRx4u.com. The DVD does not answer the questions you posed.

There are some things that will help you in the articles and the FAQ section of our website, but to save you some time, I will answer your questions here.

1. Unless you have sampling done to tell you what levels of mold you are dealing with, this is a hard question to answer. Also, you must look on the bottom of the diffuser pump you are using and see if it is at least 3.5 Watts or higher. The new pumps with YLs diffusers are much smaller because people were complaining about the noise of the old pumps. The old pumps were 4.5 watts and provided coverage for up to 1,000 sq ft of space. The new pumps are only 3.0 Watts and they will only provide coverage for about 200 sq ft of space.

Unfortunately, these smaller pumps do not emit a large enough quantity of essential oil to be effective for eliminating mold. So, again, be sure to check the wattage of your pump. So you know, we spoke with Young Living executives at Convention and they are looking into resolving this issue, and hopefully will provide some options, but it may take a while according to them.

In general, you can diffuse for 24 hours non-stop in each room and you should see a dramatic improvement, depending on the level of mold spores in the space.

Yes, you can keep rotating the diffusers from room to room, just recognize that doing it that way may take longer to get rid of mold, because mold spores travel so easily. Also, if you have central heat and air conditioning, you might consider diffusing directly into the unit's air intake. AC and Heating Unit ductwork are usually incubators for mold. If you don't have sampling done, you may not be able to identify the source of the mold problem.

If sampling is not something you are willing to do, and if you don't own the property it might not be, or if finding the source is not a concern to you, just keep rotating the diffusers and diffusing Thieves regularly.

That may be an option, but might not be your highest choice, because if the mold is in the attic or crawl space or some place where the diffused essential oil cannot get to it, then the problem may never go away. That means you will spend more money diffusing. Proper sampling and investigation can help identify the source. See the book for more details. If you do not own the property, you may be able to get the landlord to have sampling done, but there are no guarantees.

2. If you do not have mold and are diffusing as a preventative, you can run Thieves oil in the diffuser 15 minutes every 3-4 hours 2-3 times a week. If you know you have a mold problem, this would not be sufficient. Again, not knowing the level of mold or the types of mold present makes it difficult to answer this question. If it were me and I were in the situation you described, I would have sampling done.

Then, I would immediately being diffusing at least 24 hours continuously in each room and keep the room closed up during that intensive diffusing. That will provide the maximum penetration of surrounding materials.

3. To our knowledge, the Thieves Household Cleaner will not affect mold or mildew when it has been painted over. I don't know if anyone else has a story they can share that says it will work, but we have not seen that. Diffusing on a regular basis is your best option, doing so will kill the mold even if it comes through the paint.

You are wise to recognize that mold can be a problem even when you can't see it. In the case studies performed by my husband, Dr. Ed Close, the highest level of mold he found was in a house that looked absolutely immaculate, with no evidence of visible mold.

The details are in the book, but I hope these answers are helpful to you.

Sincerely,
Jacqui Close

Here's a nontoxic tonic to kill weeds!

2 cups Brussels sprouts

Blend Brussels sprouts with just enough water to make a thick mush. Add the liquid dish soap then pour anywhere you want to stop weeds before they germinate.

I personally can't think of a better use for Brussels sprouts!

Drain Cleaner

Clogged or sluggish draining sinks/pipes? Here's an easy fix:

2-3 antacid tablets
1 cup white vinegar
Hot water

Drop the antacid tablets in the drain followed by the white vinegar. Wait a few minutes to allow them to work then run the hot water for 3 to 4 minutes.

Great results with no problems, no plumber and no big repair bill. This is great to do as a preventive maintenance.

Stain Remover to the Rescue!

Watkins Aloe & Green Tea All Purpose Cleaner

At Christmas we served sparkling red grape juice and a glass was spilled on my light cream carpet and I did not know it until about 6 hours later. It was about a 4 inch purple spot that had dried! I wanted to cry. I sprayed, actually soaked, the spot with Watkins All Purpose Cleaner, scrubbed with a little brush and blotted with a terry towel and it was GONE!

I have used it on other carpet spots and it works wonders. Just wet the spot good, scrub a little with an old tooth brush and blot. Amazing results.

I also used it to treat a spot on a dry cleanable black jacket. I just wet the spot good and blotted with a towel.

I think it is MAGIC Cleaner.

It is also good as a pre-wash on collars, under arms and spots.

AND it is ALL NATURAL!
Try it! - You'll Like it!

Thanks Lois for the tip!

The All-Purpose Cleaner also comes in other scents ... but I personally like the fresh, clean smell of the Aloe & Green Tea myself.

Laundry White "Recipe"

For those that have been bemoaning the disappearance of WATKINS LAUNDRY WHITE. Here's a "recipe" that one of our customers found in her Grandma's book dating back to the 1920s.

Combine 1 teaspoon Watkins CREAM of TARTAR and 1 quart of cold water. Soak the article in this solution overnight and the white will be restored. The next time you wash, the yellow will not re-appear.
